With the State College Spikes giving the Cardinals the horns in order to hook up with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cardinals have announced their new NY Penn League affiliate will be the Batavia Muckdogs. (Sorry for the horrible puns, I couldn’t resist.) The Muckdogs, now that’s just one of the coolest minor league team names around, right up there with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Savannah Sand Gnats. It’s a 2 year agreement, so that’s 2 years worth of mileage you can get sporting a Muckdog jersey or hat if you want to be…different. Batavia previously was affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies.
If you care, Dwyer Stadium’s park factors have been 1003, 970, 968 during the 03-05 seasons according to Clay Davenport of Baseball Prospectus. Go Muckdogs. As for the big club, I don’t want to talk about it.
I’ll try and have some season wraps up soon, as of now I plan on starting with the bottom up, starting with the JC Cardinals. Looking forward to it.

Hey, I just wanted to be your first comment and say that I’m glad you’ve decided to this once a week thing on the Cardinals farm system. I really don’t know much about the farm system and will be happy to read about it during the long winter months.
thnx nick, i’m looking forward to it. there’s a lot of good coverage from VEB and the Birdhouse, but it’s not something anyone’s majored on. I hope I can do a good job with it.
I like the idea to specialize in the minor leaguers, hope to see good things from this ’site.
Dwyer Stadium looks like a nice place. It would be fun to check out every minor league affiliate in one season–sort of a poor man’s ballpark tour.
And thanks for pointing out the new short-season affiliate. I’d just assumed that we’d swap teams with the Pirates and pick up the Crosscutters.
liam, hat tip for the link of the stadium.
Batavia is only an hour or so from where I was born in Olean. It’s a teeny little town, but it’s in a beautiful part of the state. Good luck to the Muckdogs.
thanks for this blog, really gives us an idea of who is going to be coming up to the big show. good work!
